Livre magnifique de William Goldsmith, jeune illustrateur britannique âgé de 25 ans à peine... On y retrouve plusieurs courts récits de deux pages à propos d'une ville fictive nommée Ystov (ou Y-town).  Brillant et très prometteur.  Publié chez Random house.

Magnificent book by William Goldsmith, a young British illustrator who is only 25 years old... The book gathers a series of two-pages stories about a fictive city named Ystov (or Y-town).  Brilliant and promising.  Published at Random house.

Un livre coloré qui fait du bien aux yeux, en ce printemps gris et pluvieux.  Les éditions MeMo font des livres d'une qualité exceptionnelle qui s'approchent davantage du livre d'artiste que de l'album jeunesse habituel.  Gay Wegerif est originaire des Pays-Bas et vie en Angleterre.

A colorful book that feels good to look at, in this gray and rainy Spring.  MeMo is publishing books of exceptional quality that are closer to artist's books than to the usual children's book.  Gay Wegerif was born in the Netherlands and lives in England.

Harvey

Harvey est un livre magistral illustré par mon amie et illustratrice Janice Nadeau.  Il s'agit d'un livre jeunesse atypique ayant remporté de nombreux prix dont le prestigieux Prix Littéraire du Gouverneur Général, en 2009.  Plus récemment, il a été sélectionné afin de figurer dans l'exposition The White Ravens 2011 que la Bibliothèque Internationale pour la jeunesse organise à l'occasion de la Foire du livre jeunesse de Bologne - ayant lieu dans les prochains jours, en Italie.  Dans ce livre, le dessin tout en nuance de Janice danse avec son lettrage à la main et donne un rythme à la lecture du livre.  Bravissimo!  Publié à La Pastèque.

Harvey is a tremendous picture book illustrated by my friend and illustrator Janice Nadeau. This atypical children's book has won numerous awards including the prestigious Governor General's Literary Award in 2009.  More recently, he was selected to be included in the exhibition The White Ravens 2011 that the International Youth Library organizes on the occasion of the Bologna Children's book fare - to be held in the coming days, in Italy.  In this book, Janice's subtle drawings dance with her hand-lettering and give rhythm to the reading.  Bravissimo!  English translation published by Groundwood books. 

Fourchon

Fourchon!  C'est le nom que portera Spork dans sa version française.  Le nouveau graphisme, agrémenté d'une typographie à la main ainsi que d'une impression sur papier offset, me comblent de satisfaction.  À paraître en septembre 2011, aux éditions de La Pastèque. 

Fourchon!  This is the name Spork will have in its French version.  The new design, enhanced by a hand-lettered text and printed on offset paper, fill me with satisfaction.  To be published in September 2011, at La Pastèque.

Dillweed's Revenge

Un livre que j'aime beaucoup, autant pour les formidables illustrations de Carson Ellis que pour l'histoire lugubre et étonnante de Florence Parry Heide. Un style minimal, à la fois rétro et contemporain.  Publié en 2010, chez Harcourt.

A book that I love, as much for the wonderful illustrations by Carson Ellis than for the surprising and wicked story of Florence Parry Heide. The work looks at once old-fashioned and contemporary.  Published in 2010, by Harcourt.

Angoulême

L'édition 2011 du Festival international de la Bande dessinée d'Angoulême vient de se terminer.  Le prix du meilleur album de l'année a été remporté par le magnifique "Cinq mille kilomètres par seconde", de l'auteur et illustrateur italien Manuele Fior, publié chez Atrabile.  Une oeuvre poignante, tout en finesse et menée de main de maître. 

The 2011's edition of Angoulême Festival of comic books just ended yesterday.  The award for Best Album of the year was won by the magnificent "Cinq mille kilomètres par seconde", from the Italian author and illustrator Manuele Fior.  A poignant work, executed delicately and led with a master's hand.
